Well, I had recently had to read The Great Gatsby for an English book. I am not going to lie, the book itself was very boring, however the ending (Chapters 7-9) was extremely depressing, I know I talk a lot about depressing things now, but I just wanted to point this out. If you are reading it now, and don't want to learn of the ending to the book, please look away now :P.
So in the end, at least in chapter 7 Mr. Wilson finally finds out that his wife Myrtle Wilson is cheating on him, so he become "emotionally sick" and plans on moving west with her as soon as possible. He also decides to lock her in her room until they move west so that she can not escape off with her other lover, which is Tom Buchanan. However to Myrtle escapes! But in her plight of escape, she is hit by a bright yellow car, and instantly killed.
Then Mr. Wilson goes to Tom Buchanan with a gun and demands that he tell who killed his wife, not knowing that Tom was the one that Myrtle was cheating on him with. So Tom tells Mr. Wilson that it was Gatsby, assuming that the yellow car was his, and Mr. Wilson finds Gatsby at his house, and shoots him in the head. On following this action, he commits suicide with the very gun that killed Gatsby.
Later, when Gatsby's funeral is arranged, almost no one came to his viewing, for they had all just taken advantage of him for his parties. Only "Owl eyes" shows up, and feels sorry that everyone had just taken advantage of the poor man.
After all this, Nick decides to move back West, however, he decides to visit Jordan one last time, to proclaim how he is almost in love with her. But she tells him that she is already engaged. Angry, and hurt at the same time, Nick fumes out of the house. When preparing to move out, he visits Gatsby's house one last time, and while he is there someone calls the house, thinking that it is Gatsby, telling him that someone has tried to turn in illegal bonds. Which reveals that Gatsby was involved in illegal bond dealing, which is how he gained all of his money.
And the book ends there, it was such a depressing ending.
